One of the greatest problems with animals is the fleas they bring with them. These fleas are parasites that tend to feed on humans and animals, meaning your pets. As fleas jump, they bite easily to give a raised and itchy spot which may bleed at times.

So if you have fleas with animals, you have to get rid of these fleas by applying a flea and tick preventative on your pets which effectively control fleas and ticks in your home. Then, clean all the pets’ bedding thoroughly by soaking the bedding in soap hot water till fleas and eggs are killed.

The longer you keep the bedding in the water, the more fleas die as a minimum of 20 minutes is required for detergent to reach through the wax coating of the flea to dehydrate and kill the flea. Then dry the bedding in full sunshine or in the hottest setting of your dryer.

Use herbal oils to get rid of fleas

Make it a point to keep your pet’s area clean by cleaning it a minimum of once a week. Get some essential herbal oils like citronella, cedar, lemongrass, eucalyptus and lavender to fight off fleas. They are easily available in health food stores and are formulated to repel ticks and fleas without using any insecticides.

All you have to do is to mist your pet’s legs, and your own, when going places where there may be fleas. Also apply Frontline or Advantage on your pets to get rid of fleas, and to prevent them for returning to your pets for a minimum of three weeks.

Look out for tell-tale signs of flea trouble

Look out for signs of flea trouble in your pets like an increase in their scratching and biting, especially in the tail and lower back region. Even the presence of raw patches where the pet had bit and scratched itself is a sign of fleas. Flea debris consisting of black and granular dried blood and of course fleas on the pet are all signs of flea trouble.

Fleas not only stay on your pets, but can also spread to your home. So vacuum you home using the nozzle attachment, while paying attention to corners, crevices, rugs, around skirting boards and under furniture. Sometimes, vacuum vibrations make the fleas emerge from their cocoons, and thus exposed to insecticide.

Use the help of professionals

It would be better to have your carpets professionally steam cleaned by professionals like Supreme-Carpetcare.com for complete eradication from fleas. However it is important that you inform these professionals about these fleas so that they can use the right measures to eradicate the fleas. If not, they will think that you had called them for a routine carpet cleaning.

Shampooing the carpet using insecticidal carpet shampoo or having infrared heat treatment on the carpet are also great methods of killing all stages of fleas. All this has to be repeated a few times to ensure that all the fleas in your home are killed as one treatment is not sufficient to kill fleas and their cocoons. This done, fleas and animals will be something from the past in your home.

The Ibizan Hound is a quiet, fast dog that needs to be raised inside with her human family. She can jump almost any fence at a standstill and will run for miles until she feels like coming home. They are clean, gentle dogs but may do poorly with other pets and dogs. She may consider cats and small pets prey. She does very well with older children as long as she is socialized with them early on. As a reminder, never leave a child unsupervised with a puppy or dog.

*Approximate Adult Size. The approximate adult size (two years old or older) of the Ibizan Hound is 22 to 29 inches to the withers (highest point of the shoulder) and 42 to 55 pounds.

*Special Health Considerations. Most dog breeds have certain inherited health problems associated with that specific breed and the Ibizan Hound is no exception. Although a healthy breed, be on the look out for seizures and allergic reactions to chemicals and flea preparations. This disease list is an informative guideline only. Other diseases may also be significant threats, please contact your veterinarian for a complete list.

She should visit the veterinarian several times in the first year for shots, boosters and check up. Then, as an adult, she should visit the veterinarian yearly for shots and check up. As she gets older, six years and on, she should visit the veterinarian twice a year for check ups and shots. Remember; avoid feeding your dog sweets.

*Grooming. The Ibizan Hound has three coat varieties. All varieties need regular brushing. Brushing will help her maintain a clean and healthy coat and help you keep a closer eye on her health and strengthen your emotional bond with her.

Her ears should be checked once a week and be kept clean. If you have her professionally groomed, make sure ear cleaning and inspection is part of the package. No water or excess fluid should get in the dogs ears, and do not try to irrigate the ears. Ear cleaning is too complicated and critical to instruct here. Look for hair growing in the ear canal, excess wax, or moisture. If her ears have a discharge, foul odor or she seems to be in distress and you suspect an infection, or tumor, consult your veterinarian.

Her teeth should be brushed at least twice a week with toothpaste and toothbrush designed for dogs. Brushing removes the accumulation of plaque and tartar which can cause cavities (rarely) and periodontal disease. Dog periodontal disease can lead to pain, loss of teeth, bad breath and other serious disease.

Her toenails may need to be examined for growth and clipped regularly. The toenails of the rear feet grow slower than the toenails of the front feet. Generally a guillotine type trimmer is the best for this chore and competent instructions to accomplish this can be found on the net.

*Life Span. The Ibizan Hound can live between 10 and 12 years with proper nutrition, medical care and excellent living conditions.

*History. The Ibizan Hound comes from Spain, but they were originally owned by the Pharaohs in Egypt. They were first registered by the American Kennel Association in 1978.

Mange cats are typically a catching skin illness, which can be discovered on most animals. You’ll find several different types of mange; demodermic, cheyletiella, sarcoptic and notoedric. The very first three are most widespread in cats. Notoedric is much more common in cats, but might be transferred to dogs and people.

In order to identify mange, your veterinarian will take a scraping of the cat’s skin.

Demodermic mange strikes many puppies within the ages of three months to 1 year. The bloodsucking demodex canis mite burrows under the pup’s skin to lay their eggs surrounding hair follicles.
One of the most common signs of demodermic mange on cats are hair thinning/loss, scent, particularly around the eyes as well as mouth, and constant itching. If not treated, the cycle will reiterate itself. Demodermic mange isn’t contagious, however it can be severe, need to secondary bacterial infections happen.

Cheyletiella mange. A yellowish reddish colored mite brings about Cheyletiella mange, also called ”walking dandruff.” It is highly contagious by direct get in touch with. Sometimes significant sufficient to be seen with the naked eye, it is a serious issue within the Midwest and South, specially in warmer months. Most commonly, it strikes the pet’s head, neck and back. Inflammation, smell, continual itching, hair thinning and sores, are signs that your pet might be afflicted. Vets will often use tape, to uncover egg casings in your cat’s hair.

Sarcoptic mange is also referred to as scabies. Once more, the bloodsucking female mite burrows beneath the skin, to put eggs around the hair follicles. If not treated, it becomes a vicious circle, triggering soreness, thinning hair, odor, oozing sores, constant itching, and secondary infections. It most generally commences on the face, ears, or perhaps elbows, legs as well as eventually will immerse the entire body. It can be typically treated with Ivermectin and medicated baths.

Notoedric mange, also called mange cats, is contagious and can be transported to puppies and people.: Maintain pets off mattresses and home furniture. It’s not foolproof, but it could aid prevent you from coming in direct contact with the mites or eggs. Also, be careful…ensure kennels and also groomers are positive about keeping their destinations sanitized. Should you suspect your pet might have mange, seek veterinarian’s support as soon as achievable.

Fishes have been reared in homes for the purpose of eating them. This practice is prevalent since 1800. Understandably, homes in coastal areas had easy access to a variety of fishes and home aquariums were quite popular in these areas. Nowadays, fishes are more of pets which are very lovingly looked after. Aquariums at homes carefully monitor the growth of fishes which provide entertainment to the people. Home aquariums are generally found in hospital rooms and in places like Nordstrom where small children have to be entertained while parents shop. Aquariums thus add a touch of colour and excitement in the life of a lot of people.

It is good for you if you could convince that kid of yours who is hankering after a puppy in the pet store to settle for fishes instead. This will save you a lot of time you would otherwise be spending on looking after cats, dogs and birds.Advantages of fish rearing include going out of town even for a week or more without having to worry too much. All you need to do is to ask one of your helpful neighbours to feed them once or twice. Thats about it. You do not have to run after fishes trying to give them a bath. Of course, you definitely need to clean your fish tank at least once a week but then, this effort is minimal as compared to looking after bigger pets. There is the cost factor to be considered. While a dog or a cat may require frequent visits to the vet for their tick medications, flea treatments and vaccinations, fishes are quite happy without visiting any vet. They do not demand any stuffed doll or other pet toys in order to be entertained as with the puppies and dogs.

Inspite of the fact that an aquarium would require much less attention from an adult, they are a pretty and yet, interesting addition to make your home look better!
Aquariums are one of the best entertainers when it comes to small kids and toddlers as well, but just be sure to keep your toddler away from the aquarium- you dont want anyone drowning, or any fish dying for that matter!
Children often are excited by the prospects of taking care of pets, and the child can be entrusted with doing small tasks in maintaining and taking care of the fish form time to time! You can get your kids to feed the fish, and this will not only give them a sense of responsibility, it will also make them feel important to themselves and generally around the house. Some extra help while cleaning the tank is also not a bad idea! A two year young kid can spend hours trying to talk to his little fish, or just draw and paint out pictures of them whenever he wants! Aquariums at you house could be exactly what you want for only the right reasons, if only you put some thought into how to use it effectively!

Not only that, aquariums could help your kids with colour understanding, memory issues and even math! Imagine naming all your fish, and asking you shild to differentiate between different fishes in terms of colour ,size and name!

In the midst of technology boom like the myriad cable channels and addictive video games, an aquarium is a refreshing and entertaining addition to any home. You will definitely feel the difference if only you would try substituting that television program with an hour of sitting in front of the aquarium. You may even start an interesting relationship with those fishes.

Attacking the flea problem on your dogs and cats, in your home, and in your yard will take energy, time, and money, but rest assured that your efforts will have a big payoff. Fleas on your dog or cat is an irritating problem for them. When those fleas enter your home that is definitely the time when you want to launch the battle to kill each and every flea. Unwanted? True. Permanent infestation? False. Your dog’s and cat’s health is of upmost important, and you also want a home free of those pests. You can win the battle!

The most important thing to remember when you are in the process of eliminating fleas is DO NOT use a dog medication for fleas on your cat. Cats have separate medication. Any medication with permethrin can cause death in cats. Cats should not come in contact with a dog that has been treated with medication with this ingredient. Some household products could also be detrimental to our pets, so be sure to read the small print on the container and also the paper of information inside the box.

The flea has a cycle of maturity so it is important and necessary to kill all stages. An adult flea lives on our pet. As the fleas take nourishment from our pet in the form of sucking blood, it lays eggs. The eggs are slippery so the fall off onto the floor, bedding, furniture, or wherever your pet is at the time. The fleas also leave flea dirt, which is flea feces, and it also falls off with the eggs or larvae. The flea dirt is food for the egg or larvae. The larvae does not like light so it will find some dark place to live, such as deep in the carpet, under furniture, in corners, under floor molding, etc.

The larvae develop into pupae; each pupae becomes encased in a cocoon. When the cocoon detects pressure, noise, heat, carbon dioxide or vibrations, it will hatch in a matter of seconds. Now it is ready to attack your dog or cat, or bite a human’s leg.

Fleas can live, waiting in the cocoon, for up to 2 years. However, this cycle most commonly takes place within 15 days. Central heating and wall to wall carpeting can create ideal conditions for these cocoons to be a year around problem. You will want to control the flea infestation as quickly as possible.

Fleas are not only irritating to our pets because they itch, then scratch and cause skin irritation, the fleas can also cause internal problems for your dog or cat. If they ingest the fleas while grooming, the fleas can cause tape worms. If a kitten has fleas, the sucking of their blood can cause anemia, weakness, or even death. The process of eliminating the fleas should be done on the pet, in the home, and in the yard at the same time. Eliminating the fleas from your pet only means cocoons could still hatch from the carpet and re-infest your pet. Eliminating the fleas from your home and not the pet means the pet could re-infest the carpet. If your cats and dogs are flea free, and you have eliminated the flea problem in your home, there may be one more place to attack; your yard. If your pets go outdoors, you will need to eliminate the flea problem in your yard also.

There are several remedies to treat your dog and cat, your home and yard.

Remember: Do Not use the same flea medication on both your dog and cat. It could cause death in your cat. They have individual medication for dogs and cats.

Vacuum: Thoroughly vacuum carpets, every corner of your home, around baseboards, every crevice, under furniture, in between cushions, under beds, etc., everywhere it is dark where the larvae will want to go. They don’t like light. The vacuuming stimulates the fleas to hatch from its cocoon and they can easily be vacuumed up. Throw away the bag immediately when finished, or empty the contents in a container or bag that can be discarded.

Powders: Powders are available to dust on your dog or cat. It can be effective as long as it stays on the pet. This powder is a poison, so be careful when petting your pet. These powders will wash off of your pet during shampooing or even when they are in the rain. There are also powders that you can use in your yard to destroy fleas.

Collars: Collars can be effective on your dog or cat. Be aware of any irritation that might occur on their skin around the neck area.

Shampoos: There are pet shampoos that will kill the fleas. Since there are several kinds of shampoo, read the labels to decide which one fits your needs.

Dips: Fleas dips are good. There is new research creating pet-friendly, environment-friendly, human-friendly dip. They are not flea friendly.

On-pet sprays: The sprays are easy to use and are an option to use in between the shampooing.

Monthly spot application is becoming very popular as an easy and effective way to kill fleas. They are applied once a month on the back of the neck. Many are available, and some are only available through your veterinarian. Some are multi-functional because they treat other illnesses such as ear mites and heartworms. These are expensive but they can well be worth their price.

Foggers: Foggers are good for your home especially if it is an open area. However, the fumes do not get under furniture, under beds, or in hard to reach dark places.

IRG: Products that have IRG (Insect Growth Regulators) are a good choice. They don’t allow the live fleas to reproduce.

Sprays: Sprays are another option and are good to use in the yard. Some come with a hose adaptor for ease in application. You can also use some sprays in your home. Do Not vacuum for at least 2 weeks after you spray your home. Letting the spray remain on the flooring will help eliminate any flea births. There are several spray insecticides to choose from, so read the labels carefully.

All of these different products can help, but you should consider the people in your home. If you have any small children that could come in contact with powders, sprays, etc., all of these products contain some sort of poison, you will want to use a product that will be family friendly.

Your goal should be to eliminate all stages of the flea cycle. Be sure to eliminate the infested areas of your home and yard in addition to your dog or cat. Since the cocoon can hatch every 15 days, under ideal conditions, it may be necessary to go through the thorough cleaning process more than once.

You may think that only dirty homes become infested. This is not true. Even clean homes can become infested. Fleas can come in your home on your shoes, your pet, or a friend’s pet.

You can win the battle, and a battle it will become. Be diligent in your efforts and it will pay off with a bonus of a flea free environment. Check with your veterinarian for the best products for your dog’s and cat’s health. He may also have recommendations for your home and yard. This article is to make you aware that you do have many options to solve the pesky flea problems.

Your dog’s and cat’s health is very important to you. Your pet will be grateful for all to do to make them free of the disease and your home will be comfortable for you and your pets.
